Kerryn Van Der Merwe
Qualifications: CSP associate practitioner, Stott Pilates qualified, Polestar Pilates comprehensive rehabilitation
Hi, my name is Kerryn and I originally grew up in South Africa where I spent most of my time outdoors, running, climbing, and roaming freely around the hills.
I soon found myself in dance class, passionately pursuing performing on stage. Unfortunately, at a young age I was forced to take time out following bilateral keyhole surgery on my hips. Determined to get moving again, I started to explore lots of different forms of rehabilitation. After various steroid injections, and a few years of ongoing hip pain, I was finally introduced to Pilates.
Practicing Pilates led me to understand my body and functional movement patterns better which allowed me to continue to live a fully active and pain-free life. I went on to complete my highest performing and teaching levels in various dance genres at the same time as training as a Pilates instructor so that I could pass this onto others. In 2017 I became a fully qualified Stott Pilates Instructor.
Upon moving to the UK, I shifted my focus to helping others improve their quality of daily living and to safely reach their desired fitness goals. I am also a qualified personal trainer, but love to link this with the Pilates practice to help clients improve their movement patterns, resulting in freedom of movement and less discomfort.
I love to learn more so am currently studying for my level 3 sports massage diploma and have furthered my Pilates training by completing the Polestar comprehensive rehabilitation course.
Despite my injuries, I still love to dance and teach dance. Consequently, I have completed my progressive ballet technique training to further my understanding of how Pilates can be greatly beneficial to young dancers to help them avoid serious injury.
In my free time you will find me dancing, roaming around London on my bike and spending time with my friends.
