Kerryn Van Der Merwe
Qualifications: Stott Pilates, Polestar Pilates comprehensive rehabilitation
Kerryn grew up in South Africa where she spent most of her time outdoors, running, climbing, and moving freely.
She soon found herself in dance class, passionately pursuing performing on stage. At age 13, Kerryn was forced to take some time out following bi-lateral keyhole surgery on her hips. Determined to get moving again, she explored many different forms of rehabilitation. After various steroid injections, and a few years of ongoing hip pain, Kerryn was introduced to Pilates.
Practicing Pilates and understanding her body and functional movement patterns allowed her to continue to live a fully active and pain-free lifestyle. She went on to complete her highest performing and teaching Levels in various dance genres at the same time as training as a Pilates instructor and in 2017 became a qualified Stott Pilates Instructor.
Upon moving to the UK, Kerryn shifted her focus to helping others improve their quality of daily living and to safely reach their desired fitness goals. Kerryn is a qualified personal trainer and is passionate about the Pilates practice improving your movement patterns- resulting in freedom of movement and less discomfort.
Kerryn continues to expand on her knowledge of the body and is currently studying for her level 3 sports massage degree and Polestar comprehensive rehabilitation Pilates course.
Kerryn continues to dance and teach dance. She has completed her progressive ballet technique training to further her understanding of how Pilates can be greatly beneficial to young dancers to help them avoid serious injury.
