Theano Vikatou

Qualifications:Chartered physiotherapist, clinical Pilates instructor

Hi, my name is Theano. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy with first class, from the University of West Attica, Greece and I am currently completing my MSc degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Queen Mary University of London.

I completed my dance studies, in ballet and contemporary dance, qualified with a BA in dance (certified from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports). I’ve also completed the superior degree in Classical ballet-Vaganova method and I hold the pedagogical formation in the Russian system from the Sofia National Academy of Music Pancho Vladigerov- Vaganova ballet method Department. With years of experience in performing and teaching dance, and a consistent exposure in the Pilates method, I was passionate to be trained in it.

Combining my skills from both the artistic and clinical fields, I always try to explore patients’ movement patterns, identifying the structural and functional deficits and address them by providing corrective strategies. I am interested in back and lower limb injuries alongside biomechanics and how that relates to complex movement. I believe that the understanding of these components is necessary, in order to prescribe effective exercise regimes and to fulfil my client’s desired objectives.

I am currently an educator at the Clinical Pilates program at the University of West Attica, teaching physiotherapists in the assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries using the Clinical Pilates method. I am also a collaborator with the Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory at the Physiotherapy Department – University of West Attica.
Finally, I have the honor to be involved in a series of funded projects conducted at QMUL, for the injury management of dancers using innovative digital tools and present this work in conferences.

In my free time, I always make sure to keep myself active!
