Instructor Standards & Training
Certified Pilates instructors with recognised qualifications
We have a high level of expertise within our team at Complete Pilates. All our instructors are certified Pilates instructors or training towards certification. We choose instructors who have trained with the most reputable Pilates training providers. We have an ongoing relationship with Polestar Pilates UK, and many of our Instructors are trained with them.
Polestar Pilates is an internationally recognised qualification and the UK branch is recognised as having a high standard within Polestar for certification. Many of our instructors are also qualified Physiotherapists, so they have a deep understanding of anatomy and a wide range of illnesses and injuries.
Our studio premises in London are shared with our respected colleagues at Complete Physio and we enjoy a close working relationship with them, often teaming up to provide multi-disciplinary care to clients where needed.
Ongoing professional development and safety training
All our instructors undergo additional training in clinical conditions, through a mixture of one to one supervision and group learning. Our instructors often share clients and work as a team which leads to collaboration and shared problem solving.
First-aid and CPR certified staff on site
Both teams at Complete Physio and Complete Pilates receive training in basic life support.
Experience in working with injuries, health conditions and post-rehabilitation clients
The team at Complete Pilates are all experienced in working with injuries, long term health conditions and clients who have completed rehabilitation and are ready to progress on.
Client Onboarding & Pre-Class Screening
Pre-class health questionnaires and waivers.
Prior to attending classes at Complete Pilates, we require clients to complete a health questionnaire, detailing any medical conditions or injuries, which will be reviewed by your instructor ensuring that we can provide you with a session that is safe and tailored to your individual needs.
Assessment and Goal Setting
At your initial assessment with Complete PIlates your instructor will ask questions about any health conditions or injuries you may have. They will also discuss any difficulties you may be having with your day to day activities or regular exercise routine. Together you will discuss your aims for your PIlates sessions and agree goals to work towards.
Your instructor may ask you to do some movement tests so that they assess your strength and mobility and how well you are moving. Throughout your first sessions your instructor will also be carefully observing your movement during the exercises. This ensures that the appropriate level exercises can be selected for your particular needs and progressed or modified as needed to help you achieve your goals.
Your instructor will give you lots of tips to help you move effectively during the session and can modify the exercises if you experience pain or discomfort.
Record keeping
All our instructors keep written records of your sessions, which are written according to the standards of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Onwards Referral
Our instructors can refer on for physiotherapy, ultrasound scanning, sports massage and podiatry at our sister company Complete Physio.
We also have relationships with specialist medical and surgical consultants in London, and can refer on for medical care where appropriate.
Hygiene & Cleaning Protocols
Equipment sanitisation
Our equipment is sprayed down after each use with a tea tree oil mix which disinfects, whilst protecting the special covering of the Pilates equipment.
Studio cleaning schedule
Our studios are given a deep clean on a weekly rota and floors cleaned on a daily basis.
Hand Sanitiser
Hand sanitiser is available at the entrance to our studios.
Capacity & Spacing
Class Sizes
We specialise in 1:1 Pilates classes, which ensures that you are under supervision at all time through your class. We believe that 1:1 Pilates is the best way to learn Pilates, since you can receive detailed technical instruction and real time feedback from your instructor – which is essential for effective movement learning. 1:1 Pilates also allows for completely individualised progressions and modifications to your exercises.
We also offer small group classes with a maximum of 3 clients to one instructor. They are suitable for those who already have experience with the studio equipment, particularly those who have been coming for some time and feel ready to be more independent in their exercise sessions.
Spacing
We ensure that there is adequate spacing between all the studio equipment so that you can move freely and safely during your Pilates session.
There are a maximum of 5 instructors working at any one time in our Chelsea location, 3 instructors at our Angel location and 2 instructors at our City location, to ensure the space remains safe for everyone.
Injury Prevention Measures
Our Pilates instructors are trained to assess and work with each person on an individualised basis. We can work around your injuries, or to rehabilitate them, depending on what is most appropriate.
Our instructors will always check in with you to make sure that you are working at an appropriate intensity, and can modify your programme if you are finding it too challenging or experience any pain. We respect your boundaries at all times.
For those who require it, sessions can be sequenced to start in lying, using equipment to assist and support movement, and then gradually working into sitting, kneeling and standing positions, and with more resistance and challenge. Our emphasis is on smooth controlled movement, and safe and appropriate use of equipment.
Whilst we know that challenge is important for progress, we also know that a ‘no pain, no gain’ attitude can also lead people to ignore the warning signs of injury. Our aim is to find that sweet spot in the middle, where consistent progress without overdoing it gets the best results. Pilates can help you improve your mind-body connection and awareness, so that you can eventually find that sweet spot for yourself.
Emergency & First-Aid Provision
We have first aid kits at all our main sites. Our Chelsea studio is also located a short walk from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Our instructors all undertake training in basic life support skills.
Studio Policies
Footwear & Grip Socks
We require that all clients remove their shoes before coming into the studio. Socks must be worn when using the equipment in order to maintain hygiene standards.
Socks with grip pads on the soles are recommended to reduce the likelihood of slipping whilst using the equipment or walking in the studio.
Equipment Use
We request that clients use equipment only as instructed by staff, to reduce the risk of any unnecessary accidents.
Injury Reporting
In line with other clinical settings, we have a dedicated process to report any incidents of harm in the studio. Reports are reviewed by our clinical director and practice manager and any appropriate action can be identified.
Safeguarding & Respect
At Complete Pilates we believe that Pilates is for everybody. Therefore, we are committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all. We will not tolerate harassment or inappropriate behaviour.
What our clients say
FAQs
Do you clean equipment after each class?
Yes, we clean down our equipment regularly. We have multiple spray bottles with a tea tree solution within the studio, which our instructors use to wipe down the surfaces of equipment after each use. We also clean the framework of the equipment on a weekly basis to reduce build up of dust and other debris.
What should I do if I get injured during a session?
Due to our focus on 1:1 sessions and small group classes, it is very unlikely that you would get injured in a session. However, if you do injure yourself you should tell your instructor immediately. They will be able to advise on next best steps, whether it is simple first aid or a check over with one of our colleagues at Complete Physio.
Are your instructors trained in first aid?
Our instructors receive training in basic life support skills.
