Gwen Berwick

Qualifications: CSP associate practitioner, Body Control Pilates mat work, Polestar Pilates comprehensive rehabilitation certified

Hi, my name is Gwen. Growing up in New Zealand, I was surrounded by nature where playing out till the sun went down was a daily activity. This energy was soon diverted to the dance studio and when I wasn’t Pirouetting, I was competitively running track and cross-country for my school.

My dancing took me to Australia where I completed my Classical Ballet training, and where I also discovered the power of Pilates and how it could support my hypermobile body. Ballet took me around the world, dancing in a multitude of ballet and contemporary companies, with a career that has currently spanned 27 years! Throughout this, Pilates has not only supported and challenged my body, but also rehabilitated it from injury.

Along with my love of movement, and being a self-professed anatomy nerd, I began my Pilates training with Body Control Pilates and completed my level 3 training in January 2018. Since then, I have taught mat work classes across London alongside continuing in my dance career.

I love helping people of all ages and backgrounds to find their true movement potential. Not just those who use their body for dance or sport, but those who want to live an active healthy life regardless of their age and profession. I combine the knowledge and experience I have collected from my dance life, as well as from my Pilates training to inform and enhance my Pilates teaching. This helps my clients build deeper functional strength, improve the control of their movements, improved posture and alignment, enhance mobility, flexibility and move freely.

I have a keen interest in dance rehabilitation, hypermobility, shoulder dysfunction and helping deskbound workers offset their daily challenges. I hope to continue my education in these areas and have also completed my Polestar Pilates Comprehensive training to take my Pilates to the next level.

Outside of Pilates, you will find me teaching beginner’s ballet, taking long walks, joining vegetarian cook-along’s and enjoying a glass of good red wine.
