Qualifications: Body Control Pilates matwork, Polestar Pilates comprehensive rehabilitation
Gwen had an active childhood growing up in NZ surrounded by nature, where playing out till the sun went down was a daily activity. This energy was soon diverted to the dance studio. When Gwen wasn’t Pirouetting, she was competitively running track and cross-country for her school.
Her dancing took her to Australia where she completed her Classical Ballet training, and where Gwen also discovered the power of Pilates and how it can support her hypermobile body. Ballet took Gwen around the world dancing in many ballet and contemporary companies, with a career that has spanned 27 years. Throughout this Pilates has not only supported and challenged her body, but also rehabilitated it from injury. So along with her love of movement and being a self-professed anatomy nerd, Gwen began her Pilates training with Body Control Pilates and completed her level 3 training in January 2018. Since then, Gwen has taught mat work classes across London alongside her dance career.
Gwen enjoys helping people of all ages and backgrounds to find their true movement potential. Not just those who use their body for dance or sport, but those who want to live an active healthy life regardless of their age and profession. Gwen uses knowledge and experience from her dance life as well as from her Pilates training to inform and enhance her Pilates teaching helping her clients build deep functional strength, control, improved alignment, enhanced mobility, flexibility and flowing movement.
Gwen has a keen interest in dance rehabilitation, hypermobility, shoulder dysfunction and helping deskbound workers offset their daily challenges. She hopes to continue her education in these areas and is excited to be starting a Polestar comprehensive Pilates course in 2021. Outside of Pilates Gwen can be seen teaching beginner’s ballet, taking long walks, joining vegetarian cook-along’s and enjoying a glass of good red wine.
