Qualifications: MSc Physiotherapy (CSP, HCPC registered), BSc Health Psychology, Polestar Pilates comprehensive rehabilitation. Pre and post pregnancy certified.
Hi, my name is Sophie and I graduated with an MSc in Physiotherapy from Brunel University. Since then I have worked in the NHS gaining a wide range of experience treating the general public to athletes, with a variety of diagnoses and conditions, including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. Currently, I am working in a private practice as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist at Complete Physio, alongside teaching Clinical Pilates.
I was first introduced to Pilates when I hurt my back. As a sufferer of postural-related back pain, I was keen to find alternative solutions to pain relief. I had used Pilates in a group setting myself but it wasn’t until I started the Polestar Pilates comprehensive training course that things started to come together and my passion to learn more about equipment and mat Pilates commenced. Teaching equipment Pilates offered me an opportunity to achieve, restore and improve physical fitness in a dynamic form that many other modes cannot offer. My clinical interests lie in spinal conditions, persistent pain presentations, post injury and surgery rehabilitation, and improving functional movement patterns. I feel Pilates is a great tool for physiotherapists to help restore overall health and wellness.
Prior to retraining as a physio, I had a background working in mental health. Polestar Pilates fits nicely with this ethos because there is large emphasis on mind-body energy systems, whilst also fusing physiotherapy and Pilates.
When I am not in the studio you will find me walking along any beach I can find, drinking coffee or going to exercise classes.
