What Our Experts Say

Susie-Martin-Physiotherapist-_-Complete-Pilates

One of the strengths of bringing physiotherapy and Pilates together is that rehabilitation does not need to stop when someone’s initial pain begins to improve. Information from an assessment or treatment plan can be carried into a progressive movement programme, helping the client continue to build strength, confidence and independence. Good communication between practitioners also means that the programme can remain focused on the person’s individual goals.

Key Takeaways

  • Complete Physio and Complete Pilates share the same foundations – The two businesses developed from a common approach to healthcare, movement and rehabilitation.
  • The patient is at the centre of the Complete approach – Services are shaped around what each person needs rather than following the same pathway for everyone.
  • Physiotherapy and Pilates can work together – Clinical assessment, treatment and exercise can complement one another to provide a more joined-up rehabilitation experience.
  • Collaboration supports better care – Communication between physiotherapists and Pilates practitioners helps ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals.
  • The long-term aim is to help people move forwards – The Complete ethos is not only about treating an immediate problem, but also supporting people as they develop their movement, strength and confidence.

FAQs

1. What is Clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is an individualised form of Pilates that uses exercise to support rehabilitation, manage health conditions or work towards specific movement goals. At Complete Pilates, one-to-one clinical sessions are taught by, or overseen by, a Physiotherapist or Osteopath and begin with an assessment of your health and movement.

2. Do I need a physiotherapy referral to start Pilates?

No. You do not need a referral to attend Complete Pilates. However, when you are already seeing a physiotherapist, consultant or another healthcare professional, communication between practitioners can help keep your care and goals aligned.

3. Who is physio-led Pilates suitable for?

Physio-led Pilates can be adapted for people of different ages, abilities and exercise backgrounds. It may be particularly helpful when you are new to exercise, managing an injury or condition, recovering after surgery or looking for more individual supervision.

4. What happens during your first clinical Pilates session?

Your instructor will discuss your medical history, current activity and personal goals before assessing how you move. This information is used to create a programme that is appropriate for your needs and can be adapted as you progress.

5. Can I start Pilates after finishing physiotherapy?

Yes. Pilates can provide a useful next step after physiotherapy by helping you continue to develop strength, mobility and confidence through progressive exercise. Where appropriate, your Pilates instructor can communicate with your physiotherapist so that your programme continues to reflect your rehabilitation goals.
