BSc Sports Therapy, PgDip Physiotherapy, PGCert Healthcare Management, Dip. Musculoskeletal Medicine, APPI Pilates Mat work trained

Hi, my names Claire, I graduated as a Physiotherapist from Huddersfield University in 2006, having done a previous Sports Therapy degree at Teesside University. I have worked in a variety of settings with a variety of people, from professional Rugby League players, to people who have had knee and hip replacements just wanting to walk pain free, to high performing business people who want to get back to a sport they love.

I did my Pilates mat work training in 2010, with further equipment training in 2016. I use Pilates exercises for many of the clients I see as part of their recovery. I have a huge passion for aquatic therapy due to the freedom and the challenges that exercising in water gives people.

I liken equipment based Pilates to this, in that the way that we can reduce the effect of gravity on the body and there are so many ways to make an exercise easier or harder, allowing people to do things on the equipment which they may struggle to do without. Conversely, we can help people work hard as a part of a training program on the Pilates equipment, it’s great to be able to tailor exercises to people’s individual needs.

I make it my mission to try to understand what is important to each person I work with and then try to help them work towards achieving that. I try to combine my passion for sports with my even bigger passion for travel and I love a volunteering holiday, having volunteered at many different sports events, from Rio to Minsk to Slovenia and PyeongChang! I can also be found on a yearly basis moonlighting as a dancing penguin or a high-fiving snowman at the CRUK winter run!

I love nothing more than being active outdoors, enjoying long walks, cycling, bouldering, tennis or very occasional runs. I love curling up in the sofa with a mug of tea and a book, so am always open to hearing about good book recommendations.
